Koelnmesse: “Feedback on Spoga+Gafa 2020 is encouraging”

The management of Koelnmesse has issued a further statement to exhibitors and visitors to the Spoga+Gafa show. In the statement, business division director Catja Caspary and Stefan Lohrberg, director of Spoga+Gafa, confirm: "As delighted as we are that most of the comments we've been getting from exhibitors and visitors have been confirmatory, we take their concerns very seriously, especially the uncertainty felt by our partners from overseas." The feedback has encouraged the trade show management team to make the decision to let Spoga+Gafa go ahead from 6 to 8 September 2020 in Cologne.

However, fewer visitors are expected than previously, such as in 2019, when 40 000 trade and industry representatives attended. This year's visitors are likely to be primarily from Europe, but overseas interest - the statement mentions "decision-makers from large-format stores, for example in Japan and Australia - is  unabated.

What is certain is that the number of overseas exhibitors will be considerably smaller than usual. As a result, halls 1, 4.2 and 5.1 will not be used this year, meaning that twelve halls in all are expected to be open.

Exhibitors and visitors will have to manage without stand parties and social gatherings this year. The catering concept is also being changed.

The management statement provides detailed information on the hygiene rules that will apply to Spoga+Gafa 2020. These include 1.5 metre social distancing, additional entrances for exhibitors, full registration of all visitors and exhibitors, cloakrooms free of charge and contactless bag inspections. Face coverings will also be mandatory, except when sitting socially distanced at tables or moving around in the outdoor exhibition area. The complete statement can be read on the Spoga+Gafa website at
